Ken-gul Ner (/ken/ /gul/ [drain] [premiere]) is a subtropical Large Town located in Nrözduvwa Parish, Nto̠ftǟmǟw District, within the Federation of Alveria.

The name Ken-gul Ner is derived from the Wood Elvish language, as Ken-gul Ner was founded by Mlèsè Drilriash, who was culturaly Wood Elven.

Climate

Ken-gul Ner has a yearly average temperature of 17°C (62°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a warm 26°C (78°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 9°C (48°F). Ken-gul Ner receives an average of 266 cm/y (104 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Ken-gul Ner covers an area of nearly 6 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 4214 m (13825 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Ken-gul Ner was founded durring the early 16th century in summer of the year 1511, by Mlèsè Drilriash. The establishment of the new community went well, with no major obsticles durring construction.

Ken-gul Ner was built using the conventions of Wood Elven durring the early 16th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Ken-gul Ner is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Ken-gul Ner is buildings are arranged arrounded highly ordered system of spacious split-log ties streets which form octogonal paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The town has a fortified albit thin brick wall. The wall has most of the feeatures of a typical castle wall, just on a much smaller scale and and budget. Notably brick isn't a particuarly soild choice for resisting siege weapons. Ken-gul Ner's wall wouldn't hinder a proper army, but it is more than sufishent for bandits and other small marauding groups. The town's monster and outlaw focused fortifications have recently undergone extensive repairs and renovations, such that the repairwork is imeadiently apparent and can be spotted due to the diffring ages of materials. One can't help but wonder what brought the need for those repairs to the town.

Ken-gul Ner has the unmistakable air of a town on its last legs. Everything is a bit slipshod and ramshackle. Everyone is at work, or drinking. No one has anything in their eyes other than fear and despair. Whatever industry once fueled Ken-gul Ner ’s existence has dried up and the town is drifting down the stream of history as it dries up. The people are clearly worried about something, and everyone is either wearing a weapon or has one close at hand. Your gut tells you it’s not mere fate which has caused this town to begin failing...

Civic Infrastructure

Ken-gul Ner has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Ken-gul Ner. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Ken-gul Ner's parks.

Ken-gul Ner has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Ken-gul Ner.

Ken-gul Ner has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Ken-gul Ner has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Ken-gul Ner has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Ken-gul Ner's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Ken-gul Ner possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Large Town. Ken-gul Ner's grid is powered by a god's will and kindness.

Ken-gul Ner's old civil lighting system was converted to Galvanic Lamps recently, and expanded to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Ken-gul Ner has a first rate hospital which caters to anyone in need of long term medical care.

Ken-gul Ner has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Ken-gul Ner's natural decorations nor waterways.

Ken-gul Ner has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Ken-gul Ner has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Ken-gul Ner's chapel was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by vertical proportions, pointed arches, external buttressing, and asymmetry in the general shape of its buildings. The decorative features of the style were key, consisting of large arched windows, pointed arches, vaulted ceilings, flying buttresses, and sculptures integrated into the structure itself. Occasionally, for very important buildings, an array of sculptures or one colossal sculpture might replace the entirety of the entrance to said building.

In Ken-gul Ner snow is warm to the touch and does not melt within city limits. Also it only happens during summer.

The Herd Animal, Sheep near Ken-gul Ner are known to be quite timid.

Ken-gul Ner's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves line dance to channel Elven High Magic energies of tier 1 via chanting.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century the Du̽gæ Lûnigo Meadows was struck by a drought when Loch Ooze grew too small to continue feeding Stream Thurroy, which reduced the available water supply nationwide, but was especially harsh in the area arround Ken-gul Ner. As the neighboring regions had no water so spare, Ken-gul Ner lost 211 people, and 253 livestock in the disaster.. The drought lasted for 4 weeks, which are remembered as the Torment Thirst.
